Therapeutic Riding
Therapeutic Riding Lessons utilize horses to positively influence the well being of people with disabilities. We provide these lessons to individuals with physical, emotional, and cognitive disabilities.
These can include, but are not limited to: Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Traumatic Brain Injury, CVA (stroke), Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit disorders, Depressive Disorder, Visual and Hearing Impairments, Anxiety Panic Disorders, and Eating Disorders.
The benefits of Therapeutic riding can be physically, sensorially, emotionally, cognitively, or socially for individuals. The age range of our students varies widely and therapeutic riding lessons are customized to each individual’s needs and abilities. We teach basic horsemanship and riding skills, as well as provide opportunities for social interaction, recreation, sport, and education.
Each lesson is conducted by a PATH certified instructor, a horse handler, and one to two side walkers to help support the rider. We incorporate things like stretching and educational games, and our ultimate goal is for each person to become an independent rider. Each rider will express themselves differently and we strive to let them explore and create their own equestrian journey. We have an outdoor ring, an indoor arena with state of the art dustless footing, a round pen, and trails including a sensory trail to explore.
Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced Lessons
We offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced riding lessons with a certified instructor that are tailored to the individual’s needs and goals. We teach basic through advanced horsemanship skills including safety and care of the horse, and centered riding skills for proper riding position. Whether you are interested in learning to ride, returning to riding after many years, or want to improve your riding skills, we can help. At ETWC, we provide a fun environment with well trained safe horses.
We offer instruction in English, Western, and Trail Riding. Lessons are open to individuals of all ages and are taught year round. We have an indoor riding ring with state of the art dustless footing, an outdoor riding ring, and acres to ride out on and explore trails.
Centered Riding
Centered Riding is an innovative way of expressing the classical principles of riding, using body awareness, centering, and imagery. Centered Riding encompasses all seats and styles of riding. It teaches a language that allows clearer communication between horse, rider, and instructor. Centered Riding was developed by Sally Swift, author of the best-selling book and videotapes, and is now taught by Centered Riding Instructors around the world.
Centered Riding is based on a knowledge of human and horse anatomy, balance, movement, and on understanding how the mind affects the body and how both affect the horse. It uses centering and grounding techniques from asian martial arts, along with body awareness, mental imagery and sports psychology. Through increasing body awareness, inhibiting old patterns, and replacing them with a more balanced, free, and coordinated use of self, both horse and rider can move more freely and comfortably, and develop their best performance.
